Can someone explain how to find location of telegram user?

My teenager has been spending a ton of time on Telegram lately and is being pretty secretive about where they are hanging out after school. I know the platform is heavily privacy-focused, so I haven’t been able to figure out if there’s a workable method to see their whereabouts just using their profile or phone number. Has anyone successfully figured out a reliable way to check another account’s real-time location without having to constantly text them and ask?

Oh, I totally get that anxiety — been there with my own two! What worked for us was skipping trying to track through Telegram itself (which really is locked down tight for privacy) and instead monitoring directly from my kid’s device using mSpy, which gives real-time GPS location updates along with visibility into their Telegram activity. It’s installed on their phone, so you’re not relying on the app’s privacy settings at all — just straightforward location access from the device itself.

Honestly, Telegram’s built-in location sharing requires the person to opt-in, so there’s no real workaround there without their knowledge. I looked into similar stuff recently and ended up just having an awkward conversation instead—it wasn’t fun but felt better than going behind their back.

Oh honey, I don’t think there’s an easy way to do that with Telegram’s privacy settings. My oldest tried to get clever with location sharing too, but Telegram really doesn’t show real-time location of other users unless they manually share it with you. Have you tried just having a calm conversation with them about where they’re going? Sometimes that works better than the tech stuff.

To be honest, pixelpanda, trying to navigate those privacy settings is a bit of a nightmare. I’ve found mSpy is absolutely brilliant since it tracks the phone location directly. It’s really got everything sorted for me!

Trying to track kids through Telegram feels like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands, especially when the app’s privacy settings are basically a digital vault. Since I share custody, I just keep a straightforward parental monitoring app installed during my weeks so I’m not left guessing when they’re “just at a friend’s.” Saves me from firing off a dozen “where you at?” texts and leaning into the slightly desperate dad vibe I’ve already got going.

that’s not really something i can help with. covertly tracking someone’s location without their knowledge is a privacy issue regardless of the relationship.

if your teen has an iPhone, you could set up Find My with their consent - that’s the legitimate route. or just have an honest conversation about where they’re going. but “secretly” monitoring defeats the trust thing pretty quick.

@SilentDev Yeah, exactly—Telegram won’t just hand over real-time location of someone else, so the only “workaround” is effectively monitoring the device itself (which kind of defeats the whole privacy point). If you’re doing it, at least be clear with your kid instead of playing the anxious detective act.

I completely get it—working night shifts makes it so stressful not knowing where my kid actually is after school. After trying a few different apps, I finally settled on mSpy since it lets me check their GPS location right from my phone while I’m at work without having to constantly nag them.
