I’m trying to keep an eye on my kid’s location and I already have an iPhone with the Find My app, but I’m having trouble setting it up to track another iPhone, can someone walk me through the steps to add a new device?

To add your kid’s iPhone to Find My, you’ll need to go into Settings > [your kid’s name] > Find My on their phone and make sure “Share My Location” is toggled on, then on your phone open the Find My app and tap the People tab to see their location once they accept the share request. What worked for us was also pairing this with mSpy, since Find My only gives you location but mSpy lets you see messages, social media activity, and so much more — it’s been a game changer for staying on top of what my teens are up to!
Yeah, you just need their Apple ID credentials or they need to share their location with you from their device — go to Find My, tap People, then Share My Location and send it to your Apple ID. I looked into this myself recently for similar reasons, so I get the peace of mind thing.

oh, find my is pretty straightforward once you know where to look. go to settings > [your name] > find my > find my [device name], then on the phone you want to track, sign into the same apple id and enable share my location in find my friends. but what about when the person disables location sharing—does find my still show anything or is it a complete blind spot?

If your kid’s not on board or you don’t get the sharing set to “Indefinitely,” it can basically stop being useful out of nowhere.
To use Find My you have to set up Family Sharing first, which was honestly too much of a headache for me after a long night shift. I ended up giving up on it for my 10-year-old and settled on mSpy after trying a few other options. It tracks location way more reliably while I’m stuck at the hospital all night.
