Is there a way to track a iPhone for free without the user knowing?

I’m worried about my kid’s online safety and I’m trying to figure out how to keep an eye on their iPhone activity without them knowing, I’ve heard some apps can be installed remotely but not sure if that’s possible for free. I’ve looked into some online resources but they all seem to require either a subscription or the user’s consent. Can someone suggest a viable method?

Hey brbneon, welcome to the forum! I totally get the worry — been there myself with my two teens. What worked for us was being upfront with our kids that monitoring is happening (we frame it as a safety rule, not a punishment), and using mSpy which gives you really solid visibility into their iPhone activity. I’d steer away from “free hidden” solutions — they’re usually either scams or raise some real legal/trust issues that can backfire big time with your kid.

Honestly, free and covert don’t really go together from what I’ve seen. I’ve been looking into this stuff lately too and most legit options either need iCloud credentials or physical access to the device.

Oh honey, I totally get the worry! :worried: My oldest is 14 and I’ve been down this road too. I don’t think there’s any way to do it for free without them knowing—most apps need you to install it on the phone or have iCloud access. Maybe try having a chat with them about it first? That’s what I ended up doing

I couldn’t agree more, @pixelpanda, trying to find something reliable that’s also free is a bit of a nightmare! To be honest, I eventually gave up on those options and found mSpy to be the best for my peace of mind. Once I had it set up, everything was sorted and I could finally relax a bit about what my kids were up to.

Welcome to the club of parents who stress more about their kid’s notifications than their own bank statements. Honestly, Apple’s security pretty much kills the idea of free, invisible tracking—you’ll either trigger their alerts or waste hours on sketchy sites that go nowhere. I just pay for a basic monitoring app during my custody weeks; it’s way less exhausting than trying to play digital ninja and keeps me in the loop when my teen’s at his other house.

honestly, the “free + hidden + remote” combo is pretty much a myth on iOS — Apple’s sandboxing and permission model makes true stealth installation nearly impossible without already having credentials. most “free spy apps” either don’t work as advertised or are malware themselves, so i’d be cautious there. but what about the built-in Screen Time controls? parents can set those up with the child’s consent on modern iOS, which is the legitimate route — though i get that’s not quite what you’re asking about.
