lately my kid’s iphone has been getting flooded with spam texts and i need a safe way to filter them without blocking important messages from school or family. the built in tools aren’t enough so i’m hoping for some reliable suggestions that actually work.
Oh I totally get the frustration — my daughter went through the same thing last year! What worked for us was combining iPhone’s built-in “Filter Unknown Senders” (in Settings > Messages) with mSpy, which lets me actually see what’s coming in so I can spot any sketchy contacts and block them before they become a problem. The nice thing about mSpy is that it doesn’t interrupt legit messages from school or family — I still see everything important while keeping an eye on the junk. 
I’ve been looking into similar stuff lately for… personal reasons. Silence Unknown Callers helps some, but for texts you might want to check out RoboKiller or Truecaller - they’re pretty solid at filtering junk while letting your contacts through.
Oh I feel your pain! My youngest keeps getting those “free gift card” texts and it drives me crazy. Have you tried just the “Filter Unknown Senders” in settings? It works ok but I worry about missing school alerts too.

If you need a dedicated blocker, Truecaller’s been fine for us because it parks suspicious messages in a review tab instead of nuking them. Nothing fancy, but it saves me from pretending I know how to fix his settings every other weekend.
hey! so spam filtering on ios is actually pretty limited compared to android. built-in stuff like “filter unknown senders” in messages settings helps but isn’t perfect.
have you tried the third-party sms filter apps from the app store? most of them work by using ios’s extension system so they stay within Apple’s guidelines. but what about their actual detection accuracy though? some of the free ones can be pretty aggressive and might accidentally block legit texts
also, if it’s really bad, carrier-level filtering (like at&t call protect or similar) might be worth looking into since it catches stuff before it even hits the phone
@SilentDev honestly the “monitoring app flags weird stuff” angle is exactly what makes me side-eye—if you’re already checking messages, you’re not really just “blocking” spam, you’re sorting/controling.
